In a landmark development for food safety, McDonald’s Corporation has given its stamp of approval to a new audit addendum designed to enhance the SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification process for produce suppliers. SQFI (Safe Quality Food Institute) continues to strengthen its partnerships with major players in the food service and retail industries, ensuring that SQF-certified operations meet the stringent food safety requirements expected by retailers.
SQFI recently collaborated with McDonald’s Corporation and a North American based Certification Body to create an audit addendum tailored for McDonald’s produce suppliers certified under SQF for plant production. This addendum streamlines the audit process by incorporating McDonald’s requirements into the SQF certification audit, saving time and money for produce suppliers. Carey Allen, VP of Business Development at SQFI, commended this collaborative effort, emphasizing the value it offers to suppliers.
Comercializadora GAB, a McDonald’s produce supplier in Mexico, joined hands with SQF to pilot this audit addendum. Notably, many of McDonald’s produce supplier audit requirements were already covered by SQF standards, resulting in minimal additional audit time. In cases where specific McDonald’s requirements weren’t met, auditors produced a separate report for McDonald’s supplier approval.
Sarah Krol, Managing Director of Supply Chain Food Safety at NSF, praised the program’s results and its potential to save time and money for McDonald’s produce suppliers worldwide certified under SQF.
